Melville appointed Co-operative Bank CEO   – Mortgage Strategy

Andrea Melville will join Coventry Building Society as chief executive of The Co-operative Bank.

The move comes after the mutual completed the £780m purchase of the bank earlier this month.

Melville joins from Santander UK, where she is currently head of everyday banking, business banking and chief executive of its private bank Cater Allen.

She is set move to Coventry Building Society Group in June, and will also become group chief commercial officer and take up a place on the group’s executive, with responsibility for the trading performance and supporting the integration of The Co-operative Bank.

The enlarged group has assets of around £89bn, mortgage balances of £50.3bn and a combination of around four and a half million members and customers across the country.

Coventry Building Society group chief executive Steve Hughes says: “Andrea brings great experience and a track record of delivering strong customer and commercial propositions across current accounts, business banking, investments, savings and lending.”

“Her skills and experience of complex projects and digital innovation will be hugely valuable in our transformation plans and her passion to do the right thing for customers aligns perfectly with our ambitions to build something brilliant across the Group.”

Melville’s appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

The combined group will be led by the mutual’s chairman David Thorburn.
